RockStars for Life

Yesterday I posted this status on my Twitter feed:

News. Enormous, life-changing, blog-worthy, vlog-worthy, shout-it-from-the-nearest-available-rooftop kinda news. Tumblr update coming soon.

Something I’ve been working on for the past few months with my close friend Brittany Mahrer blew out of the water in a big way. That something is a non-profit organisation that we started in April called ‘RockStars for Life’.

‘RockStars for Life’ is a project that brings the joy of songwriting to children and teenagers dealing with illness, allowing them to create an identity for themselves that doesn’t put their illness first. Not only do we write songs but we produce those songs and give those with whom we work an opportunity to experience life as a rock star.

Over the past few months we’ve made leaps and strides. We started working at Boston Medical in the early summer, mere weeks after we started the project, and then a few weeks ago we were contacted by Make A Wish Foundation to make a child’s wish come true.

Yesterday was a game-changer. We were contacted by the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, the 6th largest cancer institute in the USA, and informed that we can start work on a full-time program there. This is a dream come true for both of us and the rest of the team. What started as a vision is unraveling into reality before our very eyes.

Take some time to visit our site and ‘like’ our Facebook page. As we’re a fledging organisation we don’t have a great deal of web content at the moment, but it would mean so much to us to have your support as we grow.
